Prairie Piecemakers meet the last Monday of the Month, August through April at the First Lutheran Church, 3200 E. Military Road, Fremont NE 68025. Refreshments are served at 6:30 pm and programs begin at 7 pm.
Nancy J Goff has been sewing since she was ten, making everything from teddy bears to wedding gowns. In 2015 she turned her sewing skills, her love of color and her attention to detail into Chicory Stitchery Studio and started making quilts. Since retirement from the State of Nebraska in 2020, she has been working in The Calico House quilt shop in Lincoln. Quilting has become her passion and her addiction. She has three quilt patterns released and is working on several more. She loves teaching classes to help quilters overcome their fear of techniques they haven’t practiced such as Y seams and curves.

OCTOBER 28, 2024 Lori Baker, It’s Just the Back – Pieced Quilt Backs Live Presentation I have been making pieced backs since 2001. It started as a way to save money and to gain control over the amount of fabric I was accumulating. My first pieced back was simply squares of fabric sewn together in rows. But soon my creativity kicked in and I started having fun experimenting. I used vintage linens, orphan blocks, “ugly” fabric and blocks … you name it. I’ll show you a lot of quilts to give you ideas, I’ll tell you my rules for making quilt backs, and I’ll tell you where to start on your journey to make quilt backs.
NOVEMBER 25, 202 Janet Shamburg, Shirley Kreikemeier and Kathy Molle, Needlework: What we Do Besides Quilting
Quilters often have other crafts and projects to use for their creative talents. Our program will focus on a few of these Needlework projects using local talent.
Janet Shamburg is an accomplished quilter. She will be presenting a trunk show of knitted items she has done. The program will feature different techniques from when she first learned to knit at age 10 to the present.
Shirley Kreikemeier and Kathy Molle are also local talents. Both have been quilting for many years. In addition to making quilts, they both create beautiful Counted Cross Stitch projects. Both will share their journey with this craft. The samples shown offer a variety of sizes of their projects and fun ways to finish a project.

FEBRUARY 24, 2025 Ann Healy Laser Cut Machine Applique/ Trunk Show
Wise Monkey Quilting is a family-owned business operated by Randy and Amy Healy. In addition to their quilt store they have a Retreat Center adjacent to their store and a very active online presence. Both Randy and Amy grew up on family farms in Iowa and showed livestock in the local county fairs. Amy started her love of sewing by completing many 4-H projects. Amy has been quilting since she took her first class when she was 12 and has many quilts in her possession to prove it. Randy operates the laser cuter that he uses for making pre-cut quilts and applique kits. He also does etching on glass, marble and wood. Amy and Randy will share a trunk show of their works to include a sample of the laser cut applique wall hangings that their Wise Monkey Quilting shop is known for.
MARCH 31, 2025 Teri Uden, My Quilting Journey and 4 Generations of Quilting
Terri Uden began sewing in 4-H over 50 years ago. She competed in 4-H fashion revue as well as the Nebraska Make It Yourself With Wool Contest. She attended the University of Nebraska-Lincoln and completed a degree in Vocational Home Economics. Upon getting married she became the 4-H assistant in Dawson County and worked there for over 16 years. It was during those years that she found it much easier to work on quilting projects because they could be worked on in short segments of time to complete the project. She was a busy mom with 2 children and the bookwork for their cow-calf operation plus her job, so time was short for hobbies. A job change gave her the opportunity to work at Prairie Point Junction Quilt Shop in Cozad for ten years. The time there allowed her to explore all types of quilting. In 2019 she became the Nebraska State Fair Quilt Superintendent and has worked with the many volunteers in the quilt room at the State Fair. Her job responsibilities there include the writing of the quilt entry book, hiring the judge and being the liaison of the quilt room to the State Fair Board to name just a few of the things that go into judging and exhibiting over 420 each year.
